DYSART ANGUS INFORMATION

BREED THE DIFFERENCE

1. We are a small producer based at Hilldene near Seymour and have been breeding Angus cattle on the Goulburn river flats since 2001. We have rich flood plain pasture and plenty of water and trees. We have also plenty of bird life. We have three beehives in our small forrest.

2. Our cow herd (60 breeders) is based upon Te Mania bloodlines (Dandloo ,Lowan and Beeac) to which we added cows from Vermont (Vicky and Dream), Pert, Witherswood (Tearful, Dream and Kerry), and Ayrvale(Quantify). More recently we have purchased young cows from Dulverton(Wilcoola), Stoney Point (Yankee Queen), Prime(Princess) and K.O (Dream).

3. We breed quiet functional cattle for commercial breeders with attention to growth, calving ease, carcass and structure. We have improved our herd over the years by enhancing these taits together with docility and fertility.

4. We sell HBR Bulls privately and usually at 18 months to two years across Victoria and NSW.

5. We sell some of our older cows with calf to give them and commercial breeders a chance to breed on.

6. In October 2022, we were hit by a major flood in the Goulburn River and lost six cows and one calf. With fantastic assistance from our neighbours we were able to retrieve the rest of the herd using a boat and kept them for several months on high ground. We still have quite a lot of trapped water in the gullies. Fortunately, our infastructure and fences sustained minimal damage.

7. We mainly use US and Canadian genetics in our AI program together with two or three local stars. Our program is supported by John Maher of MIB.

8. In recent years we have used LD Capitalist, Baldridge Beastmode, Sitz Stellar, Millah Murrah Marlon Brando and Kingdom. We are currently using Sterling Pacific, Baldridge Alternative, Jindra Megahit, Texas Top Gun and GAR Hometown with excellent results.

9. We have 33 HBR bulls for sale (7 two year olds and 26 one year olds). Their EBVs can we found in our catalogue which we have copies of and which can also be found on the Angus Australia webpage or our own webpage.
